Today I have joined ACX

Amazon has a site named Audible on which you can buy books read aloud for your listening pleasure. ACX is the site where authors/publishers/ Rights Holders (RH) go to tout their books. Narrators (Producers) then audition for the books and hopefully land the job.

There are two ways to get paid for this work: PFH (Per Finished Hour) a rate which ranges depending on your self worth and/or the authors belief in the book; or RS (Royalty Share) which means that you do the book for free in anticipation of receiving 20% of the sales for the next 7 years.

Many narrators manage a combinatin of PFH and RS on their books which is obviously better but I feel that whilst I am learning the ropes, the least I can do is offer my services for free in the hope of learning as I go and of later recompense.

You can refine the search of books available by accent, gender, genre etc. Being British isn’t as prolific as Gen Am (General American) but there are always around 150 titles waiting to be auditioned for.
