And so, on to LA!
Apologies for the name drop fest, but this trip was all about getting to know people. I was invited to meet up with VO coach Robin Armstrong for a wonderful chat in his studio and then on to my vocal coach, the inimitableNancy Wolfson for a one-to-one session, brilliant in person!
That’s Voiceover day started with Audiobooks, which was heaven for me. I met John Malone after many chats on Twitter and Michael, from LearningAlly. It’s always exciting to meet people face to face after working with them and only ever speaking online and through social media. There was a host of talks on stage, to an audience of about 500. The day ended with the finals of a VO competition, which was wonderful to watch. A night of karaoke with Dian Perry and Katie Flamman ensued and my trip was complete. Yet, there was so much more to come!
The next day saw us getting dressed up for the SOVAS (Society of Voice Arts and Sciences) Awards night. Rudy Gaskin and Joan Baker put on a wonderful event and since many of my colleagues were nominated, it was exciting to watch. Pat Fraley did a great job as compere and we all had a ball. I met Cristian Lanz and Fabian Toro and danced the night away back at the hotel.
